Stateless citizenship: ‘radical democracy as consciousness-raising’ in the Rojava revolution

چکیده
This article discusses radical democratic citizenship in the context of ‘Rojava Revolution’, an ongoing society-building effort that emerged majority Kurdish regions Syrian war. It describes aspects political vision Abdullah Öcalan, as interpreted and applied by activists involved self-governance system Rojava (northern Syria), since 2012. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork region, focuses ways which frame their revolution notions consciousness-raising efforts against state system. Centering role educational institutions, it argues theoretical discussions within freedom movement seek to emancipate action from state-centric articulating will, justice demands, wider geopolitical interests. Lastly, encourages studying democracy taking seriously vocabularies, everyday practices, long-term perspectives advanced collective self-organisation below.
